James G. Skiniotes, Sr.
"Mr. Skinny"
Age 80. At rest Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at Silver Cross Hospital. Born in Joliet to the late George and Maria (Kapellas) Skiniotes, he was a lifelong Joliet/New Lenox resident. A U.S. Navy veteran. Jim was self-employed as a child shoeshine boy up to manager of Lexus of Orland Park. Member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, past President of the New Lenox Lions Club, past President of the New Lenox Chamber of Commerce, former Babe Ruth League Coach. He was the recipient of the Vanguard Award of Oldsmobile. Former owner/operator of Skiniotes Brothers Plastering and Skiniotes Community Motors in New Lenox.
Surviving are his loving wife of 58 years, Jeri Skiniotes of New Lenox; his four boys, George (Joanne) Skiniotes of Oklahoma City, OK, James (Luanne) Skiniotes, Jr. of New Lenox, Stephan (Donna) Skiniotes of New Lenox and Alexander (Janet) Skiniotes of New Lenox; seven grandchildren, James Skiniotes, Timothy Bauer, Meridith Bauer, Lauren Skiniotes, Megan (Brian) Simpkins, Stephan and Alexis Skiniotes; one great-grandson, Chase Simpkins; one sister, Irene (late John) Heitzman of Joliet; one brother, John (late Rita) Skiniotes of New Lenox; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Nick G. Skiniotes; one sister, Alice (late Peter) Passas.
Funeral Services for James G. Skiniotes, Sr. will be Friday, October 3, 2008 at 8:45 a.m. from the funeral home to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 102 N. Broadway, Joliet for services at 9:30 a.m. Fr. Stephen Bithos officiating. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church Endowment Fund would be appreciated. Visitation Thursday 2-9 p.m. with Trisagion Services at 7:00 p.m. at:
