Ladislaus P. Slejko
"Loddy"
Age 92. At rest Sunday, June 13, 2010 at the Illinois Veterans Home-LaSalle.
Born in Joliet to the late Anton and Anna (nee Finc) Slejko, he was a lifelong Joliet area resident until his recent stay at the Illinois Veterans Home in LaSalle. Loddy was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Infantry from 1940 until 1945. He was in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater of Operations, and fought in campaigns in Algeria, Southern France, Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was a retired member of Laborers Local #75. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, repairing broken lawnmowers, sharing coffee and conversation with the guys, and visits from his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Terry) Donisch of Minooka; son, Georg (Laura) Slejko of Hawthorn Woods; grandchildren, Ann, Jim, and Tony Donisch, and Athena Slejko; sister, Josephine Slejko of Shorewood; sister-in-law, Dorothy Slejko of Greenfield, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his wife, Bess (nee Vrakas) Slejko; brothers, Anton (Mary) Slejko and Leon Slejko; and sisters, Ann (John) Bozich and Ernie (John) Giacometti.
Funeral Services for Ladislaus P. Slejko will be Wednesday, June 16, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park II.
