Obituary of Rita Smith

Rita A. Smith (nee Cushing) Age 85. Peacefully, Saturday, May 9, 2009 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home with her family at her side. Born in Manhattan, IL and a long time Joliet resident. A member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the C.C.W. Preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Rose (Vetter) Cushing; brothers, Robert, Cyril, Milfred (Lucille), and George (Sylvia) Cushing; sisters, Marge (Stanley) Pirc, Dorothy (Robert) Rogers, and Rose Ann (George) Skory. Survived by her loving husband of 63 years, John W. Smith; her loving children, Ronald (Sonia) Smith, Ph.D., Jae Rita (Jim) Biro, and Rick (Mary Ann) Smith; her dear grandchildren, Kari (Adam) Schneider, Jason (Lisa) Smith, Sean (Mary) Smith, Stefanie (fiance Chris Gruber), Scott Smith, and Jessica (fiance, Kale Martin) Biro; six great-grandchildren and her loving and devoted sister, Mary (Fred) Ross; also, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive. A special thank you to Joliet Area Community Hospice for their compassionate and devoted care to Rita and our family. Funeral services for Rita A. Smith will be Thursday, May 14, 2009, 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Patrick Catholic Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.
