Obituary of Robert Smith

Robert E. Smith "Bob" Age 91, a longtime Morris resident, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Morris Hospital. He was born August 26, 1920 to the late Florence (Fidey) and John Smith in Joliet, where he was raised, attending grade school there and graduating from Joliet Catholic High School. Survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Freda (Stine) Smith. Beloved father of Gloria (Harlan) Hatton of Morris, IL and the late Janice (Perry) Brooks of Bolingbrook, IL. Devoted grandfather of Tracey (Chris) Dexter of West Lafayette, IN., Kate (Travis) Thomas of Fort Worth, TX. and Ed Brooks of Richmond, CA. He was preceded in death by his daughter Janice and his parents. Bob retired in 1985 after many years as a liquor salesman for Hiram Walker/Canadian Club. He was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, and also a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed bowling, playing golf, and spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildrens' activities. Bob's family are most appreciative of Dr. Cesario Cumba and the nurses of Morris Hospital 2-South for their care and support. Funeral services for Robert E. Smith will be held Thursday, March 8, 2012 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 516 E. Jackson Street, Morris, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Fr. Ed Howe officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to the American Heart Association would be appreciated.
