Obituary of Josephine Smolkovich

Josephine R. Smolkovich (nee Saffer) Our beloved mother and grandmother went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 with her children by her side. Mom was born in Herscher, IL to Henry and Merea (McGinnis) Saffer. After her marriage to George "Smokey" Smolkovich in 1950, the newlyweds moved to Joliet, IL. Mom will be remembered as a woman of strong character with a deep devotion to her family. She loved nothing more than spending time with her kids and grandkids. The world is a lesser place for her passing and she will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched. Mom is survived by her four sons, Steven (Mary Ann) Smolkovich of Joliet, Samuel (Pamela) Smolkovich of Channahon, Stewart (Cathy) Smolkovich of Shorewood and Scott (Kristy) Smolkovich of Morris; one daughter, Suzann (George) Bajt of California; and eight grandchildren, Kate, Lori, Lindsey, Michael, Stephanie, Sam, Zachary and Matthew. Preceded in death by her husband, George Smolkovich (1997); one son, Stanley (1993); one daughter, Shirley (1958); two brothers, John and Francis; and two sisters, Evelyn and Gertrude. Funeral Services for Josephine R. Smolkovich will be Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment Mt.
