John J. Sowa
Age 86. Peacefully,Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home. Born in Joliet and a lifelong Joliet area resident. A WWII US Army Veteran serving in the European Theater. Retired from Blockson Olin Chemical after over 39 years of service. His greatest enjoyments in life were spending time with his family, bowling a good game and his tomato garden.
Preceded by his parents Joseph and Mary Sowa, seven brothers Carl (Rose), Walter, Louis, Joseph (Elizabeth), Anthony (Beatrice), Ben and Andrew (Irene) Sowa. Two sisters Ann (Albert) Dutko and Marge (Donald) Allison.
Survived by his wife of 62 years, Clara C. (nee Chermack) Sowa; two daughters Patricia (John) Kella and Sharon (George) Keenon. Two grandchildren Holly and Kyle Keenon. One sister Elizabeth "Betty" Cremer. Three sisters- in-law Elizabeth, Irene and Emily Sowa all of Joliet. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services for John J. Sowa will be Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to St. Jude Catholic Church for a mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park where full military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the US Army.
