Obituary of Marie Speckman
Marie Helen Speckman
(nee Vogrin)
Age 96, of Joliet, passed away Friday, May 18, 2012, at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home surrounded by her loving family.
Born November 20, 1915 in Joliet, she was the daughter of Peter and Barbara (nee
Merk) Vogrin. She was a lifelong resident of this community and her beloved parish, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She retired from Joliet Junior College where she served many years as a bookkeeper. Marie was also active in her children's schools, St. John the Baptist Grade School and Joliet Catholic High School. An avid bowler and golfer, she continued playing in the Monday Morning Duffers League until age 87, and drove until age 95. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother "Cookie", aunt and friend to many. She will be missed by all.
Surviving are her three children, Kenneth Speckman of Joliet, John (late Sandra) Speckman of Plainfield, and Lynn (Dennis) Janik of Shorewood; five grandchildren, Randy (Toni) Speckman, Ryan Speckman, Ricky (Stephanie) Speckman, Joseph Speckman and Cheryl (Scott) Hammac; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins and a special thank you to Gloria Louch, Barb Bruno and Becky Hamilton for all the loving care and attention they have given.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and best friend, Charles Speckman (1992); one son, Peter, at birth; and eight brothers and sisters, Margaret (Gus) Louch, George (Colette) Vogrin, Joe (Mary) Vogrin, John (Nellie) Vogrin, Bill (Ceil) Vogrin, Peter Vogrin, Tony Vogrin, and Dorothy (Bill) Futterer.
Funeral Services for Marie H. Speckman will be Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church for Mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church or Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated. Visitation Wednesday 2-8 p.m. at:
