Ben Spelde
Age 77. Peacefully passed Sunday, February 19, 2012 at his home following a courageous battle with heart disease. Born in Harvey, IL and a resident of Morris for the past 30 years. A US Army Korean War Veteran. Retired from Commonwealth Edison as a Quality Control Inspector after over 38 years of service. A member of Fox River Lutheran Church in Sheridan. His greatest loves in life were his love of God, spending time with his family and friends and the pure enjoyment of hunting and fishing. Ben's sons will never forget the fishing trips that are indelible moments marked in their memories.
Preceded by his parents, Ben and Sadie (nee Landman) Spelde; two sisters, Grace Santefort and Marie (Gene) Mudd.
Survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Ruth Spelde of Morris; three sons, Jon (Karyn) of Bloomington, Kenneth (Barbara) of Coal City,IL and Tim (Amy) Spelde of Dixon; nine granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Anthony (Florence) Spelde of Merriville, IN and Bill (Mary Ann) Spelde of Crete; one sister in-law, Marietta (Larry) Koster of Peotone; one brother in-law, Ken (Sandy) Smith of Bass Lake, IN. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Ben Spelde will be Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Rev. Kevin Garner officiating. As it was Ben's request cremation rites will be accorded following funeral services. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Samaritan's Purse International Relief P.O. Box 3000 Boone, NC 28607-3000 in his name would be appreciated. Visitation Saturday 1:00 p.m. until time of services at 4:00 p.m. at:
