Obituary of Gene Stiteley

Gene G. Stiteley "Grandpa Hot Dog" Age 79, peacefully Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at his late residence with his family by his side. Born in Hammond, IN and a longtime Joliet area resident. A U.S. Army veteran. Former owner and operator of the A&W Root Beer Stand on East Cass Street. Formerly employed as a heavy Equipment Operator for John Kubinski & Sons, and Diamond Construction for many years. A member of the Operating Engineers Union Local #150. A member of the Elks Lodge #296. Gene's first date with his wife was on Woodruff Golf Course, and they spent most of their free time golfing at the Joliet Park District golf courses. Gene was an avid bowler and enjoyed the last 37 years vacationing at Fort Myers Beach, Florida Preceded by his parents, Glen and Ella Stiteley; and his in-laws, John and Anne Kubinski Survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Gerry Stiteley; one daughter, Georgia (Jeff) Parks; two sons, Gary (Linda) Stiteley and Glen (Carrie) Stiteley, all of Plainfield; four grandchildren, Chris (Michele) Parks, Alex Parks, Calvin Stiteley and Will Stiteley; one brother, Jack (Lois) Stiteley of Sun City, AZ; and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral services for Gene G. Stiteley will be Friday, March 13, 2009 at 9:45 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. As it was Gene's request cremation rites will be accorded following the funeral mass. Private interment at St. Joseph Cemetery will take place at a later time. The Family would like to thank the Joliet Area Community Hospice and Gene's caregiver, Piotr Kubinski. Without their gentle touch we could not have made it. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Joliet Area Community Hospice in Gene's memory would be appreciated.
