Age 57, of Joliet, at rest Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center after a lingering illness. Born in Albion, NY on June 29, 1952 to the late Donald and Mary Louise (nee Showen) Stump, he was a resident of Joliet for the past 16 years. Retired Senior Chief Petty Officer of the United States Navy, serving 22 years. He was employed as a machinist with the Union Pacific Railroad in Melrose Park. Member of the American Legion Post #1080 where he was past Vice Commander. An avid NASCAR fan, Dale and Dale Jr. fan, and a NHRA enthusiast , his favorite driver being John Force.
Beloved husband of 36 years to Tracey Taylor Stump; loving father of Jason Taylor (Paula Dolph), Donald Stump (Ann Rolla), David Stump and Eric (Erica) Pisconski, with whom he had recently been reunited; proud grandpa of two; brother of Dorothy (Larry) Casey and Flora (Joe) Lambert; several nieces, nephews and cousins survive.
Preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Larry and Donald "Bud" Stump.
A Memorial Service for Howard L. Stump will be held on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to the charity of donor's choice would be appreciated. Visitation Thursday 3-8 p.m. at:
