"Tony Saylor"
Age 89. Passed away Monday, October 15, 2007 at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center. Born in Rockdale on June 13, 1918 to the late Joseph and Mary (nee Prelac) Suligoy; he resided in Rockdale his entire life. He owned and operated Saylor's Super Service on Route 6 for many years. He also owned and operated the Port Hole Tavern and RoBo Car Wash on Theodore. He served as Trustee for the Rockdale Village Board. Member of the Holy Name Society at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rockdale, who will meet for prayers on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Known as Tony Saylor in the racing circuit, his long time love of auto racing began in the early 1940's. Although he was well-known for racing stock cars and midgets in the area, he raced all over the nation until he retired from racing in the 1960's. He raced in UARA, USAC, CART and NASCAR. He was the owner and mechanic of his race cars, one of which claimed the World Title in 1959 at Sydney, Australia.
Beloved husband of 67 years to Vivian I. (nee Stadler); loving father of Sandy (late Ralph "Butch") Harney of Morris; grandfather of Bruce Harney of Seneca, Robert Harney of Morris, Brenda Lee (David) Furtak of Morris and William Harney of Coal City; proud great-grandfather of Daniel Reiman, Kristina and Katie Harney; dear brother of Irene (late Stanley) Koren and Florence (late Ed) Majeske; many nieces and nephews also survive.
Preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Marie; two brothers, Joseph (late Emily) and Andrew (Tillie); also his sisters, Anna (late Chuck) Klein, Josephine (late John) Boyer, Mary (late Mike) Gattiglio and Rosalie (late Bud) Wooden.
Funeral Services for Anthony Suligoy will be Saturday, October 20, 2007 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rockdale for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation Friday 2-4 and 6-8:30 p.m. at:
