Obituary of Sister Tierney
Tierney, Sister Miriam Patrice, OSF (1922 - 2011) died at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, Joliet, Illinois, on January 3. A native of Chicago, IL, she was the eldest of three daughters born to Frank and Irene (Le Gere) Tierney. She was preceded in death by her parents and her two sisters: Lucille Angone and Annette Gallacher. She is survived by her nephews, nieces and cousins. Sister Miriam Patrice was a treasured member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate (Joliet) for 68 years.
Before entering religious life, Sister Miriam Patrice was a member of St. Bernard Parish in Chicago, IL. She attended Altgeld Public School and Parker High School in Chicago. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the College of St. Francis (University of St. Francis) Joliet, IL, and took additional Education courses at Central Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois.
Sister Miriam Patrice began her ministry in the field of elementary education at St. Dionysius School in Benton, MO. She then taught in schools in Ohio and Chicago, IL, completing her 47 year teaching career in Bayfield, WI. Sister Miriam Patrice also ministered at Our Lady of Angels as an Activity Aide for 9 years and as Receptionist for 6 years.
The wake for Sister Miriam Patrice will be at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet, IL, (Wyoming and Rt. 30) on Thursday, January 6, 2011 from 2:00 - 6:45 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 4:45 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Procession will leave from Our Lady of Angels on Friday morning, January 7, 2011, at 9:00 a.m. The Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, IL. Memorials may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate, 1433 Essington Road, Joliet, IL 60435. Arrangements by:
