Obituary of John Trella

John J. Trella "Jack" Age 88. Passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 11, 2009, at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, with his family by his side. Born in Richmondale, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph John and Elizabeth (nee Seman) Trella. A Joliet resident since 1960 and retired Plant Manager for Turco Products in Rockdale. He was extremely active at St. Jude's Parish during the 60's when Monsignor Seidl was pastor. Jack's absolute love for the game of baseball was not only apparent whenever the New York Yankees would play, but his true love shown through as a founding father of the Marycrest Little League. He was also a Notre Dame Football fanatic, attending most home games for over 40 years, and hosting many tailgate parties with this wife, "Boots", with numerous Joliet friends. Jack enjoyed his retirement immensely, traveling the U.S. and the Caribbean with Boots and spending part of our cold winters down in Siesta Key, FL with their friends. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in business from Seaton Hall University in 1950. Jack was a Tech Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, having over 2000 hours flight time while serving four years in the South Pacific, and was part of the United States invasion in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre during WWII. He also served in the Saipan, Guam and Iwo Jima Campaigns, as well as the Leyte, Luzon Philippine Campaign; and was the recipient of numerous medals and decorations. Jack, a member of the Joliet Elks, always had a smile on his face and a joke to tell. He loved to sing and play the guitar, and was especially a fan of any song that Glen Miller produced. He was a loving, devoted husband and the most wonderful father in the whole world. He will be sadly missed. To all those who knew Jack, he was extremely proud to be a former United States Marine, Semper Fi, Mac!!!! Surviving are his beloved children, daughter, Lynn Trella; and one son, Mark L. (Teresa) Trella; one granddaughter, Cara Marie Trella; two sisters, Frances Trella Russillo and Veronica Trella Kraynak; one brother, Michael Trella; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Biruta A. "Boots" Trella; five sisters, Anna Trella Supko, Mary Trella Supko, Barbara Trella Davey, Margaret Trella and Rose Trella Myshak; and one brother, Joseph J. Trella. The Trella family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home for their care and compassion both while Dad was at home, and when he was in the Hospice Home for his remaining time on earth. We would also like to acknowledge the wonderful treatment and care provided by Dr. Ellen Gustafson of JOHA; and the entire staff from the 6th floor Oncology wing at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center. Funeral Services for John "Jack" Trella will be Monday, June 15, 2009 at 10:45 a.m. at the Church of St. Jude, 2212 McDonough Street, Joliet where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Monsignor Robert E. Jaeger, V.G. of Colorado Springs, CO. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home would be appreciated. Visitation MONDAY MORNING at the church from 9:45 a.m. until time of Mass.
