Obituary of Suzanne Turk
Suzanne Turk
(nee Manner)
Passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 23, 2009, on her wedding anniversary, after all her family had left, with her husband Frank at her side. Born in Joliet on September 13, 1943, she attended St. Paul the Apostle Catholic School, St. Francis Academy Class of 1961, and Joliet Junior College, where she was crowned the 1962 Homecoming Queen. She worked for Commonwealth Edison for 32 years, and following retirement, became the Accessories Buyer for the Turk Family Furniture Stores. Sue was a parishioner of the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus. Sue Turk "loved life" almost as much as she loved being with people. She always saw the best in the people she knew and the people who she was with.
Sue was involved with the Visitation and Aid Society, Lewis University Cultural Arts, Joliet Historical Society, the Joliet Park District Bird Haven Greenhouse and Conservatory, and the Guardian Angel Home, and committed to many other local organizations.
Preceded by her parents, William (1956) and Mary (nee Dwyer) Manner (2007); many aunts and uncles, two of whom Sue was devoted to their care, George H. Dwyer (2002) and R. Patrick Dwyer (2003).
Survived by her loving and devoted husband of 32 years, Frank Turk, Jr.; her brothers, John (Sue) Manner and Robert (Julie) Manner; niece, Stephanie (Brent) Wagner and their children, J.C., Hayden, Cordelia, Cormac and Declan; nephews, William and Michael Manner, and the Kitchell Family. Also survived by her stepchildren, Frank (Sarah) Turk all of Joliet, Elizabeth (David) Runberg of Colorado, Michael (GiGi) Turk of Plainfield and Stephen (Jackie Gillespie Horvat) Turk of Joliet, John (Tara) Turk of Florida; grandchildren, Shea, Megan, Frank and Jack Turk; David and Zachary Runberg; Austin, Andrew, Ryan and Elizabeth Turk; Jessica, John and Katherine Turk.
The Turk and Manner Families are most grateful for the kindness and loyalty shown to Sue by Margie Stanfel with Joliet Area Community Hospice, Laura Bauer, Beverly Reeves, Cynthia Gravavoy, the "Bunco Angels" and countless others.
Funeral Services for Sue Turk will be Friday, June 26, 2009 at 10:15 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Private interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sue's memory to Lewis University, the University of St. Francis, Joliet Catholic Academy, the Sue Turk Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center Foundation for the Digital Mammography Unit or the Guardian Angel Home's Suzy's Caring Place, a safe haven for battered women which has been named in Sue's honor.
