Gus E. Vandarakis
Age 80. Beloved husband and father, passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, with his family by his side.
Born March 27, 1930 in Joliet to the late Angelo and Diamanto (nee Kambourakis) Vandarakis, he was a lifetime resident. A graduate of Joliet Township High School Class of 1949. A proud U.S. Army veteran. Lifetime member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, lifetime member of Cantigny Post #367 and member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #300.
Beloved husband of Lillian "Lil" (nee Bolz), whom he married November 16, 1958 at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church; dear father of Angelo "Evan" of Joliet, Connie (Scott) Michael of Pennsylvania, Toni Lynn Vandarakis (D. Patrick) of Joliet, and Dimitria "Dee" Vandarakis (P. Johnson) of Lombard; Papou of Maggie and Mali Fenning; brother of Athena (George) Pappas of Joliet, Sophia (George) Pallios of Modesto, CA, Olympia (Gregory) Papadourakis of Darien, Gregory (Nola) Vandarakis of Elmhurst, and James (Katina) Vandarakis of Burlingame, CA; loved by many nieces and nephews, as well as cousins in Greece.
He retired from Teamsters Local #179 in 1991 after over 30 years of service. Employed at P.T. Ferro for many years. He enjoyed gardening and grilling, but most of all entertaining and laughing with family and friends.
Funeral Services for Gus E. Vandarakis will be Monday, August 30, 2010 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church for services at 10:00 a.m. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to Joliet Area Community Hospice or All Saints Greek Orthodox Church would be appreciated. Visitation Sunday 2-6 p.m. with Trisagion Services at 5:00 p.m. at:
