Obituary of Sandra Vardal

Sandra Vardal Sandra Vardal gently slipped away on September 13th,2009 with her family around her. Sandra was born April 23, 1932 in Campinas, Brazil. In 1940, with her parents Bambina and Orestis DeMattos she came to America and joined her grandmother (Anna DeAcetis) in Joliet. She is survived by three children Sande, Laura & Paul Vardal that she loving raised with her husband George who preceded her into heaven. She is also survived by her Brother-in-law Denis Vardal, and neices Denise (Mark Baker) Debra and Dina Vardal. A local business woman and a tireless volunteer who could reach out to help in 5 languages. Sandra's many memberships included; PTA local units and Joliet Area Coucil, Community Services Council, who honored her with the 2003 Outstanding Individual in Human Services Award. She once said " I don't look at whether the glass is half full or half empty. I look for who's thirsty and serve them." This sums up the kindness of her heart. Funeral services for Sandra Vardal will be Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus for a memorial mass at 10:00 a.m. Private interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you continue her good work and contribute to the PTA Scholarship Fund in memory of Sandra Vardal, which will be awarded with Joliet Area Council.
