Obituary of Lawrence Vollmer

Lawrence D. Vollmer "Larry" Age 61, of Rockdale, passed away suddenly Saturday, August 16, 2008 at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center emergency room. Born March 1, 1947 in Streator, to Reno and Anna Mae (nee Hopkins) Vollmer, he was a graduate of Joliet West High School. An electrician for IBEW #176, he was also a retired City of Joliet Policeman and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Larry was also a member and Past Master of Matteson Lodge #175, A.F.& A.M., Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Danville, and York Rite. He was also a member of Dale AC, Rockdale. An avid pool player, he will be remembered most as a jokester. Survived by his loving wife, Mary Ellen (nee Pavlich) Vollmer; two devoted sons, Jeffrey (fiancée Kathleen) Vollmer of Gardner and Scott Vollmer of Rockdale; five cherished grandchildren, Rita Vollmer, Brittany Weese, Zoe O'Lena, Hailey Weese and Robert Gunty; three sisters, Maryanne (Dave) Lewis of Arizona, Audrey (Billy Burton) Simmons of Diamond, and Vianne (Scott) Giacomo of Joliet; one brother, Dale (Sherryl) Vollmer of Joliet; his mother-in-law, Yvonne Pavlich of Joliet; sister-in-law, Catherine (late Alvin) Steyer; brothers-in-law, John Pavlich and Steve (Terri) Pavlich; several nieces and nephews; and lifelong friends, Bill and Katie Krause. Preceded by his parents; father-in law, Anthony Pavlich; and one granddaughter, Alyssa Vollmer. Services for Larry Vollmer will be Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Matteson Lodge #175, A.F.& A.M. officiating. A reception will be held Friday, August 22, 2008 from 6-10 p.m. at Lockport American Legion Post #18, 15052 Archer Avenue, Lockport 60441. Interment will be private. Please omit flowers.
