Obituary of Stanley Waznis SR
Stanley B. Waznis, Sr.
Age 74, of Joliet, passed away July 11, 2010. Born in Rockdale to the late Stanley and Alice (O'Neil) Waznis.
Beloved husband of 56 years to Judy (Dobbs); devoted father of Stanley B. Waznis, Jr. (Lucia), Susan (Leonard) Pekol, and Stephen Waznis; proud "Gamps" of Matthew Waznis, Scott (Jeana) Pekol, Sean Pekol, Shannon Waznis, Kyle Waznis; and great-grandchildren, Zach and Luke Pekol. Also surviving are brothers-in-law, Dick (Annette) Dobbs and Jack (Lois) Dobbs; aunt Marge (Al, deceased) Waznis, aunt Theresa (Tony, deceased) DeLash, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Stan was a proud graduate of Joliet Catholic High School, and he attended Joliet Junior College. His career of public service began at age 26 when he was elected to the Will County Board which was followed by his election to the positions of Will County Auditor, Joliet Township Clerk, and Joliet Township Supervisor from which he retired in 2004. An energetic campaigner, Stan's logo "WAZNIS, WAZNIS, WAZNIS" symbolized, for him, his three children. He was an officer in the Old Timers' Baseball Assn., a Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus, and he was active in numerous community service organizations. He especially enjoyed his work with the Senior Services Center.
A Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 337 S. Ottawa St., Joliet. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Joliet Catholic Academy or Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated. Family will receive friends, at church, Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.
