Raymond Whalen
Age 87. A retiree from the Joliet Herald News, quietly passed away on Monday, June 14, 2010 surrounded by his family.
Ray graduated from Joliet Township High School and served in the U.S. Navy. Ray married Eunice (nee Gibson) Whalen in 1946, and had three children. Ray was an avid golfer, and a life time member of Cantigny Post VFW #367.
Ray and Eunice were the heart of an extended family and will truly be missed. Heaven received a wonderful man Monday evening; may he have everlasting peace and comfort.
Raymond is survived by daughters, Patricia Whalen and Melanie (Tom) Hess; son, Greg (Louann) Whalen; and grandchildren, Tom (Jane) Ferguson, Tony Kurbis, Traci (Brian) Dupuis, Trisha (John) Ivlow, Keri (Dean) Kurbis, Kasi (Brandon) Kelly, Desiree (John) Lavin, Brian Shriner and Brock Whalen; and 17 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Preceded in death by his parents John and Lillian (nee Higgins) Whalen; two sisters, Evelyn Hahn and Margaret Johnson; two brothers, Jack and Donald Whalen.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Joliet Area Community Hospice for the kind and compassionate care.
Funeral Services for Raymond Whalen will be Friday, June 18, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated. Visitation Thursday 4-8 p.m.
