Edwin C. Whiteman
"Skee"
Age 87. Passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2010. Born in Joliet, he was a lifetime resident. A U.S Army WWII Veteran, and recipient of the Bronze Star. Retired from Reynolds Metals as an electrician after 35 years of service. An avid baseball enthusiast, he coached and managed teams at Belmont and Ingalls Parks. He was a great teacher and fan of the game. In his younger years, he played for the Crescent Club (formerly on Jackson Street) Baseball Team.
Beloved husband of 65 years to the late Marjorie (nee Homer) Whiteman; loving father of Sandra (late Andrew, Sr.) Roechner of Channahon, Edwin (Karen) Whiteman of Cape Coral, FL, Donald (Doris) Whiteman of O'Fallon, IL and Daniel (Koni) Whiteman of Shorewood; dear grandfather of Andrew (Elizabeth) Roechner, Andrea (Andrew) Carey, Audra (Richard) Crowther, Alan (Nancy) Roechner, Amy (Anthony) Pesavento, Adrianne (Otto) Toke; Jennifer (Lee) Fields, Edwin (Leah) Whiteman, Nicole (Michael) Woods, Kelly (Scott) Eisenbeis, Sean (Candy) Connery, Carrigan (Jim) Neal; Karie (Dan) Nelson, and Hollie Whiteman and Brock Whiteman; 34 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Emma (nee Madden) Whiteman; son-in-law, Andrew Roechner; four brothers, Art, Harold, Roy and Bill; and two sisters, Ellen and Mary.
Funeral Services for Edwin C. Whiteman will be Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment Elmhurst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to Joliet Area Community Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association would be apprecaited. Visitation Monday 2-8 p.m. at:
