Obituary of Lois Winchester

Winchester, Lois M. (McDavid) Nee Smith On Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at age 93, our beloved Mama, Grandma and Great-Grandma is now wrapped in the Lord's arms and on her journey to life everlasting. There she will once again visit with her parents, Edward and Ina Mae Smith; stepmother, Helena Smith; brothers, Everette, Marvin, and Rodney; husbands, Augustus Charles Synold, Marion L McDavid, and Charles Winchester; daughters Carolyne Synold-Hopkins and Lois Synold-Ridner. Survived by and will truly be missed by daughters, Sandra Synold-Brown (John), Bloomington, IL, and Sheri Synold-Clark (Patrick), Omaha, NE; son Charles Synold, Omaha, NE; granddaughters and Guardian Angels Diana Hopkins-Weathersby (Darrin) and Sheri Hopkins-Sisk (Terry) who were always there to love and care for their grandma. Special thanks to her grandson Gary Hopkins and wife Sandy for traveling from Arizona to see her during her final days. Sandy would frequently "break out" Grandma from the nursing home for a day of craziness with her four great-grandchildren. Grandsons Kevin Brown (Debbie), Tim Brown (Bonnie), Michael Clark, Ryan Clark and Kyle Clark (Quinn) and 17 great-grandchildren. She loved her family, cooking and doing crafts and was very proud to be a member of our nation's greatest generation. She helped our country prevail through the triumphs and tragedies of WWII and was the embodiment of Rosie the Riveter as she helped build Liberty Ships so they could sail on their course for freedom. Special thanks to the nurses and staff at Morris Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center and Joliet Area Community Hospice. We are all very grateful for their compassion and care. If you are reading this and have a loved one in a nursing home, take time to "break them out" for a day of craziness. They will treasure the memories forever, as our Grandma did. Private Funeral Services for Lois M. Winchester were held. As it was Lois' final wish, Cremation Rites have been accorded. Inurnment will be Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Jim McGuire officiating. No visitation. Arrangements by: FRED C. DAMES FUNERAL HOME 1201 W.
