Obituary of George Yack

George Francis Yack Age 78, of Plainfield, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer, August 22, 2011 at his home. He was the only child of Raymond and Mae (nee Schenkel) Yack, longtime residents of Joliet. Graduate of the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus School Class of 1949 and Joliet Township High School. He entered the U.S. Navy, served onboard the USS Fulton and received an honorable discharge after four years of faithful and dedicated service. After serving in the Navy, he assisted his father in the sheet metal business, and continued as Yack Sheet Metal for 43 years, contributing to numerous designs to local and statewide historical landmarks. George enjoyed painting, golf, billiards, bowling, basketball, fishing, attending JCA football games with his friend and cousin Mickey Hasse, and hunting with his beloved dogs Jake and Hooter. He also enjoyed an occasional vodka gimlet at Merichka's. Survived by his loving wife and best friend Donna (nee Kellenberger) Yack; continuing George's legacy are his children, Jeffrey (Jonathan Bast) Yack, Jana (Nancy Beresky) Yack, Robert (Karyn) Ehrsam, Sean (Kayoko) Ehrsam, and Maria (Michael) Hennesy; and grandchildren, Alexandria, Marley, George and Sasha. Waiting for George in heaven are his parents, favorite aunt Elizabeth O'Brien, and his son Jon. A special thank you to his caregivers, Suzanne Sheber and Edwin Talbot "my little buddy", Donna Schroeder, the staff at JOHA and Joliet Area Hospice. "To my family, friends and enemies, I leave this world with NO REGRETS" A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, August 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, 604 N. Raynor Avenue, Joliet. Inurnment to follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in George's name to Senior Services of Will County or Silver Cross Foundation would be appreciated. The family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass. Arrangements by: FRED C.
