Yoshiko I. Zullo, of Joliet, passed away peacefully, at her home Monday, August 31, 2009. She was born September 15, 1937 in Tokyo, Japan to the late Masao and Nobu Ida.
She was the beloved wife of 46 years to Nicholas J. Zullo; Loving mother of Nicholas A. (Jennifer) Zullo and Alessandra M. (Robert) Norris. Proud and devoted grandmother of Alex, Sophia and Gabrielle. Dear sister-in-law of Florence (Don) Nepote, Joan (Robert) Radakovich, Marlene (John) Higgins, the late Gerald (Diane) Zullo and the late Theresa Chesareck-Riley. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Yoshiko received a Masters Degree from the Ichiyo School of Arts and Language. A Professional Interpreter in the Chicagoland area, she was the lead interpreter when the city of Joliet hosted a symposium for Japanese educators several years ago. After her children were raised, she was instrumental in setting up the Japanese Language department at Morraine Valley College where her teaching style could be described as captivating.
She enjoyed playing bingo and making "bingo friends" and will lovingly be remembered as a wonderful wife and mother, and an exceptionally loving and supportive grandmother.
Funeral services for Yoshiko I. Zullo will be Friday evening September 4, 2009, 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred. Visitation Friday 4-7 p.m. at:
