Obituary of Sister Margaret Duffy

Duffy, Sister Margaret, OSF (Jean Marie) Sister Margaret Duffy, OSF (1922 - 2012) died at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, Joliet, Illinois on December 6, 2012. A native of Columbus, Ohio, she was one of eight children born to James and Susan (Handiboe) Duffy. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers: John, Edward, Joseph and Billy and her sisters: Sister Mary Duffy, OSF, Catherine Hoffman and Terese Weisenbach. Sister Margaret was a treasured member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate (Joliet) for 68 years. Before entering religious life, Sister Margaret was a member of St. Thomas Parish in Columbus, Ohio and attended the Parish Grade School. She graduated from St. Mary High School in Columbus, OH. Sister Margaret earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of St. Francis (University of St. Francis) Joliet, IL, a Master of Arts degree from DePaul University in Chicago, IL. Sister Margaret (Sister Jean Marie) began her ministry in the field of education in 1947 at St. Francis Academy (now Joliet Catholic Academy) where she served as a teacher and guidance counselor until 1963, when she began a 33 year ministry at the College of St. Francis as an academic advisor serving the institution as Registrar. After her retirement as Registrar, she continued to minister at the University until 2000 when she moved from that institution in order to provide Community Service for her Sisters at the Motherhouse, Guardian Angel Home and Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home. The wake for Sister Margaret will be at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet, IL, (Wyoming and Rt. 30) on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, from 2:00 - 6:45 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 4:45 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Procession will leave from Our Lady of Angels on Wednesday morning, December 12, 2012, at 9:00 a.m. The Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, IL.
