Obituary of Joseph Cook
Joseph Nelson Cook, Sr.
Age 81. Friday, January 18, 2013 peacefully at his home in Channahon, surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with cancer.
Left to cherish his memory is his dearly loved wife of 48 years, Mary Alice (nee Dominguez) Cook; proud son and his namesake, Mayor Joseph N. Cook, Jr. (Laurie Pillion); devoted daughter, Gloria L. (Scott) Cook-Richardson; and his special gentle son, James Tyler Cook; treasured grandson, Alexander J. Cook-Klossing and adored granddaughter, Jessica M. Cook-Klossing; and brother of Bill (Dorothy) Cook, Robert (Gladys) Cook and Beverly Keast. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He was a devoted friend of many.
Preceded in death his infant grandson, Benjamin Nephi Cook-Klossing; his parents, William J. and Dorothy J. (nee Tyler) Cook; his most beloved brother, Wesley D. Cook; and lifelong best friend, Robert "Chiv" Chiovatero.
Born March 7, 1931 in Buckingham, IL. He was a lifelong resident of Channahon and a graduate of the last class of Channahon High School. A proud American and a decorated Korean War veteran. A member of the U. S. Army 1st Cavalry Division. He was listed as Missing In Action for over 121 days behind enemy lines. By the grace of God, he was one of a very few to return home from task force Crombez. A recipient of the Silver Star, five Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts. He was a proud member of the Will County Carpenters Union Local #174 retired after many years of service. Former Park Ranger and caretaker of McKinley Woods Forest Preserve.
A persistent devoted Cubs fan, he enjoyed fishing and hunting with his son, Joe, gardening and carving duck decoys. He was a lifetime member of the DAV and the Grundy County Rod and Gun Club.
Funeral services for Joseph N. Cook, Sr., will be Thursday, January 24, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. LDS Bishop Gordon officiating. Interment Willard Grove Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Army. Visitation Wednesday, 3-8 p.m. and Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at:
