Obituary of Charles Voigts

Charles W. "Bill" Voigts Age 80. Peacefully Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in LaSalle County, IL. He was raised on a farm in Rutland and Allen Townships in IL. He graduated from Streator High School in 1950 and Northern Illinois University in 1962. He became a Certified Public Accountant in 1964, distinguished member of the Illinois Society of CPA's and the Arkansas Society of CPA's. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was discharged in 1953; serving in the Chaplain Corps as Chaplain's Assistant for most of that time. He has 40 years in Christian Education; former Sunday School Superintendent of the Grace United Methodist Church Joliet and Chairman of Christian Education and Elder at the First Presbyterian Church Joliet. A member of the speaker's bureau for the Illinois Bankers Association. Life member of Kiwanis International; member of the Joliet Kiwanis Club. Past Lt. Gov. of the Illinois-Eastern Iowa District. Past President of the Joliet Downtown Kiwanis Club. Participated in 30 Annual Kiwanis Club Shows. He was also past President of the Easter Seals of Joliet and Will County and past Chairman of the Board of Directors, past President of the Will County Heart Association, past Treasurer of the Downtown Development Council, past Ambassador of the Joliet Chamber of Commerce, past Treasurer of the New People Organization, past Exalted Ruler of the Joliet Elks Lodge #296 and past State President of the Illinois Elks Association. Present Trustee of the Joliet Elks Lodge #296, present area member of the Grand Lodge Auditing and Accounting Committee Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the U.S.A., present member of St. Raymond's Cathedral, Joliet, IL and presently active in his business which is principally audits, consulting and income tax service. Preceded by his parents, John and Mary Voigts; three brothers, Donald (Fran), Lewis and John Voigts; three sisters, Marie (Ross) Thomas, Phyllis Matter and Louise (Elmer) Weber; and his son-in-law, Edward Flanigan. Survived by loving and devoted wife of 20 years, Carol (nee Falletti) Voigts of Joliet; two sons, Craig (Terri Taylor) Voigts of Joliet and Mark Voigts of Mt. Prospect, IL; two daughters, Sharla (Robert) Chadwick of Sterling, VA and Leslee Flanigan of Joliet; 11 grandchildren, Rachel, Cailegh and Lauren; Meagan, Erin, Edward, Kathleen and Liam; Brittany, Tiffany and Brandon; great-granddaughters, Addison and Emma; one brother-in-law, Melvin Matter; and two sisters-in-law, Betty Jean Voigts and Pat Falletti; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Bill Voigts will be Thursday February 14, 2013 at 8:45 from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to his surviving family would be appreciated. Visitation Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. A lodge of sorrows service will take place at 7:00 p.m. under the auspices of the Joliet Elks Lodge #296 and the Illinois State Lodge Past Presidents.
