James F. Melick
Passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Monday, February 25, 2013.
Jim was born April 16, 1921 to Edith (Haynes) and Walter Melick in Newark, Ohio but lived most of his life in Oregon, Ohio.
Jim married Betty (Kapff), the love of his life, on January 24, 1942. They lived most of their married life in Oregon, Ohio, moving to Morris in 2000. Jim was honorably discharged from the Army in 1946 with the rank of Master Sergeant. He retired from BP Amoco in 1982.
Jim's hobbies included woodworking, making grandfather clocks, winemaking, and "tinkering" in his workshop. His love of traveling and hiking took him and Betty to every state, numerous times, in their motor home.
Jim is survived by his wife, Betty (married 71 years); daughter, Judy Stemen; granddaughter, Melissa (Al) Pilch, grandson, Don (Jen) Stemen; great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Madelyn Pilch, Anna & Jonah Stemen and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Harold and Gene.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Peace Lutheran Church on Saturday, March 2, at 7:00 p.m. with the Pastor Kris Zierke officiating. Jim was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. As it was Jim's request cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Peace Lutheran Church or Grundy Volunteer Hospice.
