William R. Vincent
"Big Red"
Age 81, of Joliet and formerly of Bloomington, IL passed away peacefully Monday, March 18, 2013 at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center. Born July 28, 1931 to the late Mary (nee McCray) and Herschel Vincent in Bloomington, IL where he was raised and attended Bloomington High School. He joined the United States Marine Corp. and was one of the "Chosin Few" who served during the Korean War at the Chosin Reservoir. He received the Purple Heart and the Presidential Citation with ribbon bar and two Bronze stars, as a member of Fox Company, 2nd BN, 5th Marines in the First Marine Division, F.M.F. A lifetime VFW member, he was also a member of the DAV.
Beloved husband of 59 years to Joan (nee Hale); loving father of William, Jr. (Elaine) Vincent of Charlotte, NC and Jovy Vincent of Joliet; proud grandpa of Charles Vincent and Austin Abel; dear uncle of Mark Vincent and Nathan Hale.
Preceded in death by his sons, Michael and Derald Vincent; granddaughter, Sarah Vincent; his parents; two brothers, Gene and Maurice Vincent; and one nephew, Chris Vincent.
Bill, a loyal Illini, Bears and especially Cubs fan, also enjoyed maintaining a meticulous yard. He was fondly known as the "Mayor" of Five Star Gym where he always felt like family. He retired from Vincent and Associates due to health, in 1987, and was previously employed as an agent with Miller's Mutual Insurance and the G.M.O. Railroad as a switchman.
Funeral Services for William R. Vincent will be held Thursday evening, March 21, 2013, 7:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet, where visitation will take place for all friends, relatives (and even Sox fans) from 3 - 7p.m. with services immediately following. Interment private, Friday at Eastlawn Cemetery in Bloomington, IL. Memorials in his name to JOHA would be appreciated.
