Obituary of Helen Vercelli

Helen M. Vercelli (nee Biernat) Passed away peacefully, at home, Wednesday, March 27, 2013 with her family present, holding her beloved husbands hand. Born April 16, 1923 in Joliet to the late Anna (nee Zuchowski) and Felix Biernat, she attended St. Thaddeus Grade School and was a graduate of Joliet Township High School, class of 1940. Active in the Paulites and a member of the Will County Homemakers. Helen was a lifelong Joliet resident with the exception of 14 years living in Texas, Japan and New York. Beloved wife of 63 years to Edward Vercelli; loving mother of Mary (Mike) Blatti and Anita (Dan) DeCanniere; proud grandmother of Michael, Nicholas and Christopher Blatti; Justin (Ashley) and Andrew DeCanniere. Also survived by her devoted goddaughter, Janet Jurman and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Leo (Bernice), Raymond (Mary) and William Biernat; sisters, Rose (Charles) Partak, Victoria (Stephen) Pavlik and Florence (Richard) Cullen. Helen will be remembered fondly by her family as a wonderful wife, loving mother and very caring grandmother. The sun rose and set with her grandsons. Funeral Services for Helen M. Vercelli will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 9:15 a.m. from Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet, IL to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
