Obituary of Joann Tapella

Joann Tapella (nee Scahill) Age 81, of Joliet, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Joliet Area Community Hospice with her family at her side. Born April 23, 1931 in Joliet, to the late James and Anna (nee Polochi) Scahill, she attended St. Patrick Grade School and St. Francis Academy. She was employed by Rogers & Holland Jewelers and Finesse in the retail jewelry business for many years. She also enjoyed a career in modeling, participating most recently in Hansen's Fashions with Diana at Al's Steakhouse. For many years she was also involved in producing shows at the former D'Amico's 214 Club in Joliet. Joann also was a volunteer for Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center and Joliet Area Community Hospice. Joann was the beloved sister of Rosemary Webb of Joliet; and the loving and favorite aunt of Judy (Jerry) Capista of Joliet, Cathy Phelan of Joliet, Patsy (John) Rice of Bloomington, Trisha (Terry) Potts of Colorado, Bill (late Judy) Webb of Joliet, Jim (Sharon) Webb of California, and John (Cindy) Foster of Colorado. She is also survived by 22 grand-nieces and nephews; many great-grand and great-great-grand nieces and nephews; a special niece-in-law, Audrey Webb; her dear friend, Earl D'Amico; and a host of cousins and friends. She was preceded by her parents; a sister, Anna Marie Foster; three brothers in infancy; two brothers-in-law, William Webb and Robert Foster; three nephews, Michael, Robert and Dennis Webb; and one grand-nephew, Tony Capista. A Memorial Mass for Joann Tapella will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, her 82nd birthday, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 710 W. Marion St., Joliet. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery will be private. Memorials in her name to Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated.
