Francis Loughran Murphy
"Murph"
Age 94. Passed away peacefully Monday, April 22, 2013 at home. Born January 16, 1919 in Joliet to David and Mary (nee Loughran) Murphy, a graduate of De LaSalle High School in Chicago and attended Joliet Junior College. A U.S. Army Air Corp veteran. Francis was the owner and operator of Murphy Radio and TV, formerly employed at the Stateville Penitentiary and a member of the Will County Carpenters' Union #174 for over 39 years. A member of the Paulites and St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, volunteer at the Rialto Theater, founder and past president of the Will County Wood Chizzlers, a member of the Illinois State Retirees Club and he enjoyed fishing, nature (birds), music and a good conversation with anyone he met. He always said he could fix anything but a broken heart. With his deep Irish heritage, you would always hear him say, "may the good Lord take a liken to you." He will be missed deeply by his family and all that knew him.
Preceded by his beloved wife, Eileen (nee Broadus) Murphy (2008); one son, Michael D. Murphy (2003); one infant daughter, Colleen Marie; his parents; and one brother, David A. Murphy.
Survived by one son, Gerald F. (Marlene) Murphy; one daughter, Mary Ann (Danny) Sloan; four grandchildren, Sean Murphy, Shannon (Dan) Schraeder, and Meghan and Bree Ann Sloan; one great-grandson, Parker David Sloan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to Maria, who made their father's last year of life comfortable with her care and compassion.
Funeral services for Francis Loughran Murphy will be Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 9:15 a.m. from Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet, IL to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.
