Obituary of Harold Stokes

Harold E. Stokes "Gene" Age 70, a longtime Channahon resident, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Advocate Christ Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Vandalia, IL, October 2, 1942 to the late Pearl (nee Oary) and Carrol Stokes, he was raised and educated there, graduating from Vandalia High School. Loving husband of 25 years to the late Martina "Marty" (2011); beloved dad of Brad (Amber) Stokes, Robert Stokes, Gary Chesko, Bill (Shelly Parini) Chesko, Cheryl (Kevin) Marks and son-in-law Warren Spray; proud grandfather and great-grandfather of numerous grandchildren; dear brother of Darrell (Shirley) Stokes, Dale (Karen) Stokes, Judy (Brad) Sarver and Joyce (Charlie) Friddle; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends, Sam and Joyce Chirich also survive. Preceded in death by his wife; son, Joseph Chesko and daughter, Linda Spray. Gene retired from Caterpillar Inc., after 36 years of service. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, camping and being a fan of the Chicago Bears and St. Louis Cardinals. A member of the Moran A.C., South Wilmington Fireman's Club, Loyal Order of Moose-Joliet Lodge #300 and Vice President of the Joliet Bowling Association (also past President). A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, where all friends and relatives can gather from 2 p.m. until the services begin at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Gene's name to the Joliet Area Youth Bowling Association would be appreciated.
