Obituary of Brian Helmer

Brian G. Helmer Age 68. Passed away peacefully Thursday, May 2, 2013 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home following a courageous battle against cancer, with his family by his side. Born in Peoria and a longtime Joliet area resident. Graduate of Joliet Township High School Class of 1963. Retired from Milano Bakery in 2000. Member of Teamsters Union Local #179 for 33 years. He was an avid woodworker, who had a love for cars and flying his remote airplane. Surviving are his loving wife of 48 years, Rose (nee Mitchell) Helmer of Joliet; two daughters, Julie (Fred) Yax of Joliet and Jodi (Mark) Sorensen of Mokena; two grandchildren, Taylor and Trent Sorensen; his siblings, Marty (Wendy) Helmer, Lori Olsen, and Brad (Rebecca) Helmer all of Morton, IL; brothers-in-law, Doug (Mary Ellen) Mitchell, Bob (Jane) Mitchell both of Shorewood, and Ken Neese of Plainfield; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Quejada and Kim Rohan of Edward Hospital, Dr. Nemeth and Dr. Walsh of Joliet, and the staff of Joliet Area Community Hospice for all their kind and compassionate care shown to Brian and our family. Funeral Services for Brian G. Helmer will be Monday, May 6, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet, IL 60431. Pastor Jeff Chubb officiating. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to Joliet Area Community Hospice or Theodore Lutheran Church would be appreciated.
