Obituary of Joseph Broderick

Joseph J. Broderick Age 79. At rest Sunday, May 3, 2009 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Joliet, he was a long time resident of Lockport, living in Joliet since 1957. A graduate of Sacred Heart (St. Dennis) Grade School and Lockport High School, he attended St. Joseph Rensselaer for one year, and received his Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering at Purdue University in 1952. He retired from Hines VA Hospital in February 2007, following 30 years of service. Member of the Old Timers Baseball Association, John Purdue Club, Moran A.C., and the Joliet Moose Lodge #300. Joe was an avid Purdue football fan, and was very proud of his Lockport High School Alumni. Joe had a unique personality, a true "people person" who made a friend with everyone he met. Survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Kathleen "Kate" (nee Fitzgerald) Broderick of Joliet; beloved father of Terrence Joseph (Joellen) Broderick of Joliet, Daniel Francis Broderick of Jacksonville, FL and Timothy John (Anna) Broderick of Joliet; dearest grandpa of Alexandra "Ally", John, Margaret "Maggie" and Daniel Broderick; two sisters, Rosemary (late Eugene) Cummings of Plainfield and Kathleen (G. David) Ross of Lockport; one brother, Thomas Broderick of Lockport; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Mary Margaret Broderick (1990); parents, John and Virginia (nee Fitzgerald) Broderick; several nephews; in-laws; and other family members. Funeral Services for Joe Broderick will be Thursday, May 7, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church for a concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorials in his name to Joliet Area Community Hospice or St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church would be appreciated. Visitation Wednesday 2-8 p.m. at: FRED C.
