Obituary of Spyridon Thiakos

Spyridon A. Thiakos "Sam" Age 78. He was peacefully called home on Monday, May 20, 2013 from the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home where his family was by his side. He was met at the gates of Heaven by his son, Peter, and welcomed into the house of the Lord. Born in Lefkada, Greece and a long time Shorewood resident. Retired from Thiakos Food Service as the owner/operator after many years of service, until his son, Peter took over his responsibilities and ran the family business. He was a hardworking man, whose family was the center of his universe. Preceded in death by his son, Peter S. Thiakos (April 23, 2013); and his parents, Anastasios and Tasoula Thiakos. Survived by his loving, caring and devoted wife of 50 years, Angela S. (nee Georgis) Thiakos of Shorewood; proud father of two sons, Tom (Deb) of Bolingbrook and Billy (Jessica Talerico) Thiakos of Lemont; his precious daughter, Sophia (Nikolas) Gkotsis of Joliet; two cherished and adored grandsons, Dennis Gkotsis and Tyler Hycner; one brother, George (Helen)Thiakos of California; one sister, Sousanna (Bill) Fillipas of Greece; three nephews, Tom Thiakos, Nick Fillipas and John Fillipas; and one niece, Effie Vaggenas. Funeral Services for Spyridon Thiakos will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 9:45 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church for services at 10:30 a.m. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
