Obituary of Stephen Brown
Brown, Stephen G.
Stephen Gerald Brown passed into the sweet hereafter on a beautiful Monday afternoon September 12, 2011 at his Shorewood home with his wife and children by his side. He purposely chose this day to join his beloved brothers because the date coincided with the anniversaries of their crossing over; Michael U. Brown who passed nineteen years ago this same date, and his brother Robert L. Brown who died eight years ago, on September 9. It is also the birthday of his only surviving sibling, Jackie (Joseph) Brown Brongiel.
Stephen is also survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Kenda (nee Kurtenbach); his devoted son, Cyril: and the apple of his eye, daughter Jillian. He is the son of Elizabeth and Cyril Smutnak, who are residing in Reno, Nevada. Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, and cousins also survive.
A lifelong resident of Joliet, he joined the Navy immediately after his graduation from Joliet Central High School in 1967, and served his country honorably for four years. After he was discharged, he began a 36 year career as a Craftsperson with Painters District Council #30, later becoming business representative of Local #1285, a post he held for 24 years until his retirement in May of 2009. He also belonged to the Loyal Order of the Moose.
Funeral Services for Stephen G. Brown will be Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers the family requests that everyone sign the back of their driver's license to become organ and tissue donors. Visitation THURSDAY 4-8 p.m. at:
