Obituary of Clifford Berglund

Clifford W. Berglund Age 91. Peacefully, Sunday, July 14, 2013 at his residence following complications arising from mesothelioma, with his family by his side. Born in Joliet, he was raised and educated in Lockport, IL and then moved to Plainfield, IL where he resided for many years before relocating to Oswego, IL. A U.S. Army veteran, Clifford was an Entrepreneur, Optimist, Achiever and Visionary. Former Co-Founder Plainfield Tool and Engineering, Co-founded Plainfield of El Paso Inc. (Plainfield Stamping-Texas Inc.), Co-founder of Plainfield Molding Inc., Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of (all three plants). Honorary Doctorate Lewis University, YMCA Benefactor, Lewis University, Plainfield Park District. Member of Medinah Shriners International, a 50 year Master Mason, and National Rifle Association. President of the Chicago chapter of the National Tool Makers Association, President Illinois Manufacturers' Association, Chairman of the Industrial Relations Committee, NTMA, Chairman of the Technical and Standards Committee, NTMA, Trustee and Vice Chairman of the Insurance Committee, NTMA, Chairman of the International Relations Committee NTMA, Director of the International Special Tooling Association, NTMA. President of the Chicago Tool and Die Institute, Chairman of the Illinois Manufacturers' Association, Chairman of the Small Manufacturers' Action Committee, Past Chairman of the Three Rivers Manufacturers' Association, Chairman of the Church of the Good Shepherd, President of the Plainfield Lions Club, President and Commissioner of the Plainfield Park District, Executive Committee of the Rainbow Council, Boy Scouts of America, Team Leader for the State of Illinois Department of Vocational and Technical Education, Executive Advisory Board of the Governors' Small Business Advisory Commission, President of Lay Advisory Board of the Governors' Small Business Advisory Commission, President Lay Advisory Board, St. Joseph Medical Center, board member of the Rialto Theatre, Joliet, IL, Recipient of National Tooling and Machining Association Honor Award, Recipient of the Heinze-Winzeler Award (Chicago Tool and Die Institute). He received the Spirit of Life Award establishing a Research Fellowship in his name at the City of Hope Pilot Medical Center; and participated in many other civic and social organizations. Preceded in death by his second wife, Lois (nee Brockway) Berglund (2006); his parents, Henry "Hank" and Alma (nee Thor) Berglund; two brothers, Raymond and Robert Berglund. Survived by his loving wife, Rita Matichak Berglund of Oswego; four sons, Terry of Arizona, Greg (Sue) of Texas, Keith (Pennie) of Earlville, IL and Kevin Berglund of Plainfield, IL; three daughters, Laurel (Mike) House of Mendota, IL, Elaine (John) List of Monee, IL and Holly (Jeff) Gawlik of Plainfield; one sister, Jean (the late Harlow) Cagwin of Ashkum, IL; his first wife, Loma Beth (nee Berryman) Berens. Also survived by Lois' three children, Jim (Nancy) Holm of Carlinville, IL, Cindy (Bob) Welter of Watersmeet, MI and Alicia (Bill) Bever of Channahon, IL; also Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Clifford W. Berglund will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. Rev. David Green officiating. Entombment Woodlawn Mausoleum.
