Obituary of Rachel Schaller
Rachel L. Schaller
Age 92. Passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home. Born June 19, 1921 in Joliet, the daughter of Adolph and Emma (nee Schewe) Schaller. Rachel graduated from St. Peter Lutheran School and Joliet Township High School, Class of 1939. She had studied piano through grade school and high school, and was awarded her teaching certificate from the Joliet Conservatory of Music on June 27, 1940. She completed further studies at the American Conservatory in Chicago. She taught countless Jolietans the appreciation of piano and organ music for over 60 years. She was the organist for many years at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Joliet. She was awarded the "Volunteer of the Year" award for her services at Sunny Hill Nursing Home.
Survived by her cousins, Helen (late Merritt) Wheeler of Joliet, Alvin (Marialice) Horn of South Elgin, Kenneth (Phills) Schewe, Karen (Jeff) Kure and Wayne (Beverly) Schewe all of Joliet.
Preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Verna May, in infancy.
Funeral Services for Rachel L. Schaller will be Friday, July 19, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, where Rachel lived for many years, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet. Interment Elmhurst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home would be appreciated.
