Obituary of Benedict Cabay

Ben B. Cabay A true love story, together in life and together in death. Married 67 years, they now continue their journey together. Ben and Helen both passed from this life within a day of each other. Helen passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 25, 2013 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, and Ben joined Helen very peacefully on Monday, August 26, 2013 at their home. Helen was born 91 years ago in New Alexandria, PA, she moved to Joliet when she was eight years old. Ben was born 92 years ago in Joliet where he was a lifelong resident. They were very loving parents. Survived by three children, John Cabay, Cathy (Tony) Restaino, and Ron (Robin) Cabay; 10 grandchildren, Bobby, Chris, Anna, Jennifer, Greg and Michael Cabay, Mark (Sara), Kristen Restaino, Travis (Lindsay) and Nathan Proudfoot; and five great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Maryellen Eberhard and Ellie Cabay. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Preceded in death by their infant daughter, Mary Lynn; Helen's parents, Vera and Michael Mandzuk; Ben's parents, Frank and Theresa Cabay; Helen's sister and brothers, Anna, John and Ed Mandzuk; Ben's sister and brothers, Theresa (Louis) Kaducak; Frank Jr. (Mary), Al (Getta), Joseph (Irene), Louis, Tony (Dorothy), Ray, and two brothers in infancy. Helen's family was most important to her, and she was happiest when she was helping others. She will be remembered as a caring wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Helen and Ben were active in many organizations including St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, and the Paulites, where Helen enjoyed singing with the church choir, St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary (past President), Boys' Club Auxiliary, Joliet Catholic High Mothers' Club, and JTHS Class of 1940. She enjoyed playing bridge and golf. Ben was President of Ben B. Cabay Construction Company for over 40 years. He was active in many community organizations including the Joliet Chamber of Commerce, George Werden Buck Boys Club, Cantigny Post VFW #367, and Contractors Association. He served in the Army Air Corp (Pacific) during WWII. Funeral Services for Helen and Ben Cabay will be Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 9:15 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rd., Joliet to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Entombment Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum. Memorials in their name to St. Paul the Apostle School Endowment Fund, Providence Catholic High School, Joliet Area Community Hospice or charity of donor's choice would be appreciated.
