Obituary of Mary Jett

Mary F. Jett (nee Glosecki) Age 95, of Crest Hill, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center. Born in Taylor Springs, IL, Mary graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1936, followed by a year of business school in Peoria, IL. She and Nelson exchanged vows on September 30, 1939 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Joliet. After moving to Joliet, Mary was active in assisting Nelson with Cub Scout Pack #82 in Plainfield. She held many positions in the Mother's Club, Altar & Rosary Society and CCW (Council of Catholic Women) at St. Mary Immaculate in Plainfield; being named Women of the Year in 1960 was a proud moment for her. She also participated in many CCW activities at St. Ambrose Church in Crest Hill. During her children's high school years, she held positions on the boards of St. Francis Academy and Joliet Catholic High School. Mary enjoyed playing the wash tub, bass and kazoo in the "Kitchen Belles", a kitchen band formed with lifelong friends from St. Mary's. She enjoyed traveling and making friends throughout the United States and Europe, still corresponding with many of those she met. She also loved being a "snow bird" with Nellie, traveling to Homestead, FL every year until 1992. During her years in Joliet she was employed by the United Way of Will County and Fannie May Candy. The position she most enjoyed, however, was being the "coffee lady" at White Hen Pantry. Many local police officers and attorneys knew Mary would have their favorite brew for them when they stopped in. Mary enjoyed watching all sports, whether professional or local school sports. She was conversant in stats for most teams, but was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinal fan. Mary's volunteer spirit kept her involved with the Rialto Square Theatre, Our Lady of Angels and many, many more local charities. Survived by two daughters, Mary Sue (William) Fillback of Fairview Heights, IL and Bobbi (Steve) Levanich of Elwood, IL; one son, Dennis Jett of Leawood, KS; six grandchildren, Lisa (Chad) Gravelle of Kansas City, MO, Jonathan Levanich of Plainfield, IL, Ashley Levanich of Greenwood, SC, Andy Jett of Overland Park, KS, Stephen Jett of Kansas City, MO and Katie Jett of Kansas City, MO; three great-grandchildren, Ella Jett, Alec Jett and Tabitha Levanich; and many nieces and nephews. Mary also shared a special relationship with Charlotte Jett. Preceded by her loving husband of 55 years, Nelson B. "Nellie" Jett (9/1/1995); her parents, John and Mary (Onofrey) Glosecki; three brothers, John Glosecki, Andy Glosecki and Michael "Speedy" Glosecki; two sisters, Olga McKenna and Susanne Biros; and one stepsister, Helen Ondesko.
