Obituary of M. Alcuin Kelly

Sister M. Alcuin Kelly, OSF Sister M. Alcuin Kelly, OSF (1917 - 2013) died at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, Joliet, Illinois, on October 4, 2013. She was born in Sidney, Nebraska, to the late Anna (Reinke) and Francis Kelly. One of twelve children, she was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers John, William and James and sisters, Sister M. Bernadine Kelly, OSF, Sister Marie Terese Kelly, OSF, Rosamund Kelly, Frances Schwalbach and Josephine Degani. She is survived by her sisters, Rita Johnson of Wilmington, Illinois, Jean Werner of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, and Margaret Abel of Lake Bluff, Illinois. Sister Alcuin was a treasured member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate (Joliet) for 80 years. Before entering religious life, Sister Alcuin was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Parish in Falls City, Nebraska. She attended St. Francis Academy (Joliet Catholic Academy) and earned her Bachelor Arts degree from the College of St. Francis (University of St. Francis) Joliet, Illinois. She also attended the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago, Illinois, where she earned a Bachelor of Music with a major in Violoncello and a Master of Music Education. Sister Alcuin began her ministry in the field of education in 1938 at St. Bernard School in Joliet, Illinois. Besides teaching in Ohio for nineteen years, she ministered in the music department at St. Francis Academy from 1943 until 1954 and from 1967 until 1982. She also taught private music lessons in the Joliet area until she moved into Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home in 2003. The wake for Sister Alcuin will be at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet, IL (Wyoming and Rt. 30) on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, from 2:00 - 6:45 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 4:45 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Procession will leave from Our Lady of Angels on Thursday morning, October 10, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. The Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, Illinois.
