Melvin C. Rull

Age 83. Monday, October 21, 2013 at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center, after a brief illness. Born June 5, 1930 in Staunton, IL to Siebert and Lydia (DeVries) Rull, he was a Joliet resident since 1964. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Gatling. A graduate of Southern Illinois University. He retired from AT&T in 1990, where he held numerous management positions within the construction, engineering, installation and maintenance operations. After retirement from AT&T, he served as Executive Director of the Will County Public Building Commission from 1991 until the time of his passing. He served his community as a board member of the American Red Cross, Salem Village, the Joliet Region Easter Seals, and was active in the United Way. Member of the Joliet Rotary, Telecom Pioneers, and Our Savior Lutheran Church.
Survived by his wife, Cynthia Rull; daughters, Lori (Mario) DeBenedetti, and Lesli (Carl) Bartolo; son Matthew (Susan) Rull; stepdaughters, Nicole (Brad) Hardesty and Andrea (Michael) Tromp; proud grandfather of Gina and Samantha DeBenedetti; Eric and Matthew Lee; Alyssa Rull; Olivia, Alaina, and Carl III Bartolo; Brady and Bryce Hardesty; Jacob and Allison Tromp; also survived by sister-in-law, Linda Rull of Quincy, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty (1996); brother, Loren (1977); twin brother, Marvin (2005); sister, Rolene Hemann (2009).
Melvin C. Rull will Lie in State at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1910 Black Road, Joliet on Friday, October 25, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at 10:00 a.m. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Joliet Region Easter Seals or Our Savior Lutheran Church would be appreciated. Visitation Thursday, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rd., Joliet from 3-9 p.m.
