Obituary of Margaret Phelan

Margaret "Peg" Phelan (nee Leake) Age 75, of Ransom passed away peacefully Thursday, November 14, 2013 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington, Illinois with her family by her side. She was born October 19, 1938 in Morris, Il to John and Isabel (nee Lundsford) Leake and was raised in Verona. Retired from the Illinois Department of Public Aid as a nursing home inspector. Formerly employed at the Dwight Correctional Center as a registered nurse and formerly a nurse at Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet. She was a devoted religious woman and an active member of the Watch Program. She was very active in the LaSalle County 4H Club where she was a group leader for many years. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and her greatest love in life was spending time with her grandchildren and family. She was the beloved wife of Paul Phelan of Ransom; loving mother of John (Kathy) of Seneca, IL, Matt (fiancee Becki) and her daughters, Brittani and Raquelle of Ransom; proud grandmother of Elizabeth (James) Depew of Shelbyville, IL, Katharine (Steve) Kinzler of Morris, IL and Andrew Kruger of Waxahachie, TX; beloved great-grandmother of Jeremiah Depew and Zak Kinzler. Also surviving are three brothers-in-law, Edward J. (Barbara) Phelan of Joliet, IL, Luke (Judy) Phelan of Maumee, Ohio and Leo J. Phelan of Joliet; one step sister, Anne (James) McGowan of Bloomington, IL; and many cousins. Preceded in death by her son, Mark J. Phelan (August 20, 2013); and her daughter, Mary Kruger (July 8, 2006). Funeral Services for Margaret Phelan will be held Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Sacred Heart Church, 219 Emmett Street, Kinsman, IL 60437, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. with Fr.
