Obituary of Edward Hausser

Edward J. Hausser Age 88. Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Ed was a lifelong Joliet resident, born February 18, 1925 to Edward and Mary (nee McGann) Hausser, and was the oldest of six children. He married his wife of 57 years, Donna (nee O'Keefe) on February 11, 1956 at St. Patrick's Church. Also surviving are his five children, Marsha Hausser (Alicia Curtis) of Germantown Hills, Andrea Hausser of Montgomery, Edward G. Hausser of Aurora, Amy (Don) Raymond of Braidwood and Mindy (Russ) Ivanov of Montgomery; he was the beloved grandfather of seven grandchildren, Joe and Hayley Raymond; Victoria and Sara Hausser; and Emma, Ethan and Addison Ivanov. Ed is also survived by his sister, Delores (Frank) Tomac of Joliet; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph Patrick Hausser (1959); his parents; brothers, Dick (Dorothy) Hausser and Don (Irma) Hausser; and sisters, Eileen Hausser and Carol (Pete) Smith. Ed was a proud World War II veteran, enlisting in the U.S. Army when he turned 18. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, where he served as an airplane propeller specialist. Ed retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1989 after 31 years as a mail carrier. It was a career suited to his friendly personality and love of the outdoors, and one in which he made lasting friendships. He passed his strong work ethic to his children and encouraged each to find work they would enjoy. Ed's family and friends have countless memories to cherish of his unselfish love and untiring devotion to them. His sense of humor and kindness will be forever missed. Member of St. Jude Catholic Church and life member of VFW Post #367. Funeral Services for Edward J. Hausser will be Monday, January 6, 2014 at 9:15 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet to the Church of St. Jude for Mass at 10:00 a.m. Ed will be buried with full military honors at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
