Obituary of Joann Speaker

JoAnn K. Speaker (nee Wedic) Age 79. Passed away Monday, January 13, 2014 at Emeritus of Joliet Courtyard. Born November 25, 1934 in Joliet to Joseph Wedic and Mary Ann (nee Zema) Ivy. JoAnn was an avid golfer who received an award for a hole-in-one. Her greatest loves in life were spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends, especially recalling her many fond trips with her husband, Joe, to Florida. Loving mother of Joseph (Karen) Speaker III, Karen Speaker Bourg and Nancy (Art) Schultz, Jr.; proud grandma of Zachary Speaker; Brett and Maggie Schultz; loving sister to Pauline (John J.) Rogan, Joseph F. Wedic and Judith S. Hamilton; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Preceded in death by her beloved husband whom she married in 1958, Joseph R. Speaker Sr. (2013); her grandson, Arthur Joseph "A.J." Schultz; and her parents. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the aids and nurses at the Emeritus of Joliet Courtyard and the staff of Gentiva Hospice for the care they provided to our mother. Funeral Services for JoAnn K. Speaker will be held on Friday, January 17, 2014 at 9:45 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet, to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. As it was JoAnn's request, cremation rites will be accorded following her funeral service. Inurnment will be at a later date Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Joseph. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to Gentiva Hospice, 4 Westbrook Corporate Center, Suite 620, Westchester, IL 60154 would be appreciated. Visitation Thursday 3-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
