Obituary of Lillian Vandarakis

Lillian R. Vandarakis (nee Bolz) Age 78. Beloved wife and mother passed away Sunday, January 19, 2014 at Presence St. Joseph Hospice with her family by her side. Born in Cicero, IL, March 23, 1935 to the late Eric H. Bolz, Sr and Ruth H. Krause (nee Kaehlert), she moved to Joliet in her youth. Lil was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gus Vandarakis, whom she married November 16, 1958 at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church; dear mother of Angelo Evan (Phyllis) of Joliet, Connie Michael of Philadelphia, PA, Toni Lynn of Joliet and Dimitria "Dee" (Pam) of Lombard; loving Oma of Maggie and Mali Fenning (Connie); sister of Eric H. Bolz, Jr. (Joan) of Colorado Springs, CO, Elmer (Eva) Bolz of Security, CO, Bob (Carol) Bolz of Crest Hill and Skip (Donna) Bolz of Wilmington; and loved by many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her brothers, Wayne, Emil, Dutch (Gloria) and Bruce. Lil left a supervisor position at Illinois Bell to raise her family. She proudly earned her GED in 1971 after deferring High School to raise her four younger brothers. While Lil was able, she enjoyed painting, ceramics, knitting, crocheting, and cross-stitch. She had an eye for fashion, flowers, and jewelry. She was an avid reader and Jeopardy player. A gracious host and cook, Lil loved laughing with family and friends. She will be missed by all. Funeral Services for Lillian R. Vandarakis will be Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 9:15 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet, to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church for services at 10:00 a.m. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church or Presence Hospice would be appreciated.
