Obituary of Debra Dobson

Debra Dobson Debbie Lee Flanagan Age 57. Peacefully Monday, January 27, 2014 while she was in prayer with her family at her bedside at home following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Joliet and a lifelong Joliet area resident. She was a former manager at Murphy Steak House in Mokena and a waitress for several Joliet area restaurants. A member of Stone Hill Bible Church on the praise team, American Legion Harwood Post #5, Ladies' Auxiliary and former member of the Moose Lodge #300 Ladies of the Moose. Debra was a local area singer with many different bands, most notably with the band, Country Feelings with her father, Ernest "Cotton" Flanagan. She found God 37 years ago she began to sing for him and all of his glory. She was a strong and vibrant woman who always put others before herself. Her children, so very much appreciate knowing she was always at their side, no matter what. Her greatest loves in life were being in the presence of her children, grandchildren, family and friends all while basking in the glory of God's grace. God was her life and source of hope. Her deepest wish was that everyone would find Jesus. Preceded by her husband, William Dobson (March 4, 2012); her son, Jason Overton (1978); her parents, Ernest "Cotton" and June (nee Borg) Flanagan; her two sisters, Sandra Childress and Cynthia Pickens (January 25, 2014). Survived by her two sons, Thomas Oliver and Ryan (Roxanne) Oliver; three daughters, Tracy Oliver, Autumn (Juan) Diaz and Candice Dobson all of Joliet; seven grandchildren, Kyla, Allison, Alejandra, Isaiah, Kelci, Sebastian and Madelyn, with the eighth grandchild, Raelyn to make her appearance any day now; two brothers, Gary Soerensen and Ernest Flanagan, Jr.; her brother-in-law, Raymond Dobson; she leaves behind her beloved best friend, Mary Cook; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. The family would like to thank Margie and Linda from Joliet Area Community Hospice for their tender, loving care. Debra Dobson will Lie in State Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Stone Hill Bible Church, 1516 Edgerton Drive, Joliet from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at 10:00 a.m. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park.
