Obituary of George Fisk

George H. Fisk Age 83. Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 25, 2014. Born July 9, 1930, in Chicago, IL and spent most of his life in Joliet, IL. He graduated from Joliet Township High School in 1948 and married Sally, his childhood sweetheart, in 1951. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves and worked at various jobs prior to his employment at the Joliet Herald News, where he filled multiple roles before being named editor and publisher in 1982. He also served on the board of directors of Copley Press, Inc., which was the parent company of the Herald News and Fox Valley Press, of which he was president. Throughout his 40-year career, George received numerous awards and was recognized for his many volunteer efforts, including his service to United Way and the Silver Cross Hospital Board of Directors. Upon his retirement in 1993, he and Sally moved to Leesburg, Indiana, where they enjoyed their golden years in the house of their dreams on Irish Lake. Preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Fisk and Ruth Fisk Robertson. George is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Sally (nee Sheeler); his children Sharon (Rich) Peck, Mike (Karen) Fisk, Tim (Mary) Fisk, Polly (Duke) Yaguchi and Steve (Sheri) Fisk; grandchildren Mandy, Matt, and Meagan Peck (fiancé Andy Patterson), Josh (Chrissy) Fisk, Eric (Jenny) Fisk, Todd Fisk, Ryan and Hayley Fisk, Grace Yaguchi (Jamal Razavian), Victor Yaguchi (Sneha Barve) and Rose Yaguchi; and great-grandchildren Tyler Fisk, Ashlyn Fisk, Morgan Walsh, and Alyson Fisk. A devoted husband and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, George will be greatly missed by all who remember his quick wit and passion for life. A celebration of George's life will take place from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2014 at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads, Joliet, Illinois. Cremation has taken place, according to his wishes. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Church of the Good Shepherd Evangelical Covenant, 2437 Plainfield Road, Crest Hill, Illinois.
