Peacefully reunited at age 84 with her loving husband, Wendell, Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Morris Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born in Mattoon, IL on June 15, 1929 and a longtime Joliet area resident, most recently residing in Morris Healthcare Rehabilitation Center in Morris. She attended Lucy Flower High School in Chicago and grade school in Mattoon, IL. Wanda had the most important occupation there was...she was a stay-at-home loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was known for cooking, baking and sewing. She had a tremendous love for music. Wanda was instrumental in starting her husband's Naval Reunion, responsible for bringing many veterans and their families together from USS James E. Craig DE201. Wanda loved the warmth of the sun shining on her face, the outdoors and fishing. Her and her husband spent many winters in Seminole, FL. Her greatest loves in life were her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and their families.
Preceded by her loving husband of 53 years, Wendell O. Easton (1999); her parents, Elmer and Bonnie (nee Coen) Scott; three brothers, Adrian (Thelma), John (Blanche) and George (Margie) Scott; one sister, Catherine (Bob) Garrett.
Survived by five children, Kay (Jack) Riley of Coal City, Vicky (Larry) Di Giusto of Joliet, Rex (Melodee) Easton of Joliet, Catherine (Gordon) Milne of Coal City and Max (Katie) Easton, also of Coal City; 15 grandchildren, Wendy (Jim) Mikula, John (Brittany) Riley, Megan Riley, Dawn (Cruz) Serrato, Angie (Terry) Margliano, Beverly (Dr. Jake) Wines, Benjamin Easton, Erin (Eric) Hwang, Molly (Barry) Sterba, Mary (Chad) Macaluso, Michael Milne, Emily, Lizzie, Owen and Emmett Easton; 28 great-grandchildren; numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the nurses of the Morris Hospital ICU for the quality of the medical care, their kindness and compassion.
Funeral Services for Wanda Mae Easton will be Monday, March 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rd., Joliet. Rev. Tom Logsdon officiating. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to United Cerebral Palsy, 311 S. Reed Street, Joliet, IL or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
