Obituary of John Egly
John Raymond Egly, Jr.
John Raymond Egly, Jr., age 85, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, March 28, 2014, with his family at his side. Born on January 24, 1929, he was a lifelong resident of Joliet. He graduated from Joliet Township High School in 1947. He was a member of Stone Hill Bible Church (Larkin Baptist) where he served in various capacities including Chairman of the Board of Trustees, member of the Building Committee, Treasurer, and AWANA leader. He was a Boy Scout/Cub Scout Master. He worked at Material Service as an electrical superintendent for 35 years. He was a devoted family man, a mister fix-it, and an avid wood working craftsman. His family remembers him as a fun-loving husband and father. During the summer, he drove his family to vacation locations including Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, and other National parks. His children and grandchildren are grateful that despite his hectic work schedule, he always left time to play with and support them.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Beverly (nee Davy); one daughter, Barbara (William) Reeves; sons, Larry (Frances) and John (Jeanette); grandchildren, Rebecca (Brett Sontag) Gesher Haney, Nolan (Ramona) Egly, Maria (John) Gelsthorpe, Will (Tanya) Reeves, John Ryan (Michelle Lowe) Egly, and Erin (Daniel) Roubik; great-grandchildren, Spencer (Jessica Stoczanskyj) Haney, Addison (Victoria Glasscock) Haney, Donovan and Kendall Sontag, Eric Egly, Jaycie, David and Joseph Gelsthorpe, Liam and Skylar Reeves; brothers, Robert (Wanda) Egly, James (late Marilyn) Egly, Richard (Cissy) Egly, Donald (Joan) Egly and David (Karen) Egly; brother-in-law, Glen Schulte; numerous nieces and nephews; and best friend, Mason.
Preceded in death by his parents, John Sr. and Myrtle (nee Forbis) Egly; brothers, J.W. (late Darlene) Egly and Thomas (late Judy) Egly; one sister, Marianna Schulte.
Funeral Services for John R. Egly, Jr. will be Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rd., Joliet, with Pastor Greg Munyon officiating. Interment will be at Elmhurst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to Stone Hill Bible Church, 1516 Edgerton Drive, Joliet, IL 60435 would be appreciated.
